After many months of thought, planning and preparation on behalf of the organisers, teachers and students, April 6th a much talked about date in 10 Mayo schools, has arrived.
The @NCC or National Children's Choir comes to Mayo under the great stewardship of Aideen McPaul and the sublime musical direction of Kathy Quinn. We are thrilled to be involved and delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to our students here. None of this would have been possible without the collective hard work and enthusiasm on behalf of the organisers and teachers.
Here in school we are grateful to our hardworking and generous teachers in 4th & 5th, who undertook the project, namely Ms Paula Heaney, Bean Uí Chógáin, Ms Maria Mulligan & Ms Dee Foy. They were continually inspired by the sheer enthusiasm and endeavour of Sr Margo and ably helped by the unwavering support of Ms Aoibheann Finan & Ms Patricia Dunne, SNAs.
The project involves learning a large repertoire of wonderful songs in harmony. The 500 talented children involved from 10 Mayo schools have achieved so much and this will be clearly evident in tonight's magical performance when they sing in one voice. They have worked so hard, both in school and collectively for shared rehearsals from which they always returned enthused.
It is a project which has really inspired the students to sing and perform and one which they speak of with great verve and animation. They will remember these songs and will be able to recount this experience for life.
This opportunity was made possible by the help of the Parents' Association and we are greatly indebted to them also.
Sincere thanks to all the people who have already bought tickets. We understand there will be a few more available on the door tonight. The children are being supported by the renowned group Coda which will add further to the unique experience.
Sa deireadh, míle buíochas arís le gach duine a bhí páirteach sa deis álainn seo.
