Parents' Association

St Angela’s Parents’ Association

The Education Act 1998 sets down the role of the Parent’s Association. St Angela’s Parents Association is affiliated to the National Parents Council Primary.

All parents/ guardians of pupils in St Angela’s School should endeavour to join the Parents’ Association.

The Parents’ Association is the structure through which parents/ guardians in a school can work together in partnership for the best possible education for their children. Educational research on the involvement of parents in schools shows that children achieve higher levels when parents and teachers work together.

There is an AGM meeting in September of every year and a committee is elected, their role is to manage the responsibilities of the Parents’ Association on behalf of all the parents. The 2018/2019 Chairperson is Kathy Molloy.

Meetings are usually held in the school, in the evenings and last up to an hour. There are about 5 / 7 meetings a year.

Different fundraising events have been organised over the years such as the Christmas Fair, Easter Bonnet walk, table quizzes and Christmas Santa stroll.

The money raised is spent on improving and updating the facilities for the pupils in St Angela’s. In the past few years a large investment was made by the Parents Association to improve the ICT in the school. This investment has now led to the school receiving a Digital School of Distinction Award. Improvements have also been made to enhance the stage in the Hall by purchasing new lighting, sound system and new stage curtains.

A “Fun Day” is organised by the Parent’s Association for the pupils during the year. The junior classes have an entertainer who provides some fun and distraction for the children. A quiz night takes place for the 4th, 5th and 6th classes. This is an extremely enjoyable evening with wonderful prizes and treats provided.

The Parents’ Association have been involved in Policy formulation in relation to Child Safeguarding Statement, Anti- Bullying policy, SPHE policy, RSE policy and others.

The Parents’ Association are available to support staff in events such as school graduations and concerts.

New parents and ideas are always welcome, so even if you can’t attend a meeting, please forward any ideas you have for consideration.

We are greatly indebted to the very positive contribution and support of our Parents' Association and we ask more people to help them in the vital work they do.

Please email any suggestions to the school.
