Important Dates this week

We are really looking forward to two very special dates in our school calendar which are happening this week. The children in the Junior end are so excited about their end of year sports and the students in 6th class, together with their parents, families and teachers are excited to celebrate their graduation from St Angela's. A warm welcome extended to all involved.

Fighting Words Project

Our 5th Class were involved in the wonderful Fighting Words programme this year which enabled each girl to author, edit, illustrate and publish her own book. We had a fantastic book launch in school on Monday. Some of the celebrity guests included Darina & Noreen from our local library and Noreen Walsh, Chairperson of our Board of Management. Darina informed us abput this year's Summer Stars initiative. The event finished with a celebration of fine food!

End of Year Art Displays

Such a magnificent array of our work from all our classes. For our end of year Art & Craft display we put together a very beautiful art display to showcase the fantastic work being done by the children in St Angela's. Congratulations to them and to their teachers. We are so proud of you all. Take some time to study the deatail on each board. It's worth it!

Greece Day 2018

Today our 6th class girls celebrated Greece Day. They dressed up in Greek costumes, many homemade using recyclable materials and brought in some fabulous Greek treats for us all to taste. The Mediterranean sunshine greatly added to the event. This was particularly fortuitous as they got to paint their pottery in the shade and it dried very readily! What a wonderful way to celebrate their work for the Blue Star Programme!

Senior Infants on Tour

Last Thursday Senior Infants went on Tour to Kiltimagh. Ms. English and Ms. Gallagher's classes waved goodbye to Mammies and Daddies from the Library carpark and went off on an adventure! First we visited the Kiltimagh Wetlands Park. Here we met a little baby wren that had fallen out of a tree and needed some help getting back to its Mammy. After that we split up into different groups and went to explore the Wetlands. We identified a lot of different trees around the park, like the Ash, Scot's Pine and Holly. We went bird watching too and saw some Wagtails and Chaffinches. We also went on a Bug Safari and tried to find lots of different mini-beasts in the plants and rocks. We saw a lot of wo

Green Schools Action Day

Well done to Ms English and her wonderful Green Schools Committee on their very successful co ordination of our end of year Action Day. Today we had a very 'fruitful' clean up of the grounds, followed by the presentation of prizes to the top battery recycler in each class! The committee also educated us about the importance of recycling batteries. Alan Mee, Castlebar Tidy Towns also visited us and told us about the variety of work and research his group are engaged in. He complimented our school on the great work they do. We were very grateful to him for visiting us and we encourage all families in the school to become involved in Tidy Towns! A great way to celebrate summer!

4th Class display #pureskill on tour

Fourth Class had a wonderful trip to Galway on Friday. They fully utilised all their fundamental movement skills in Pure Skill and learned all about the history of Galway in the city museum. Each of our tours has an #activeschools component and are all truly educational in the broadest sense. Many Thanks to our staff for being so generous with their time and ensuring that memories are made for all. These are #happydays

Surfing Achill Island!

As part of our commitment to #activelearning and #activeschools our ladies in 5th Class took to the waves for their school tour this year. They really felt on the crest of a wave after this tour and we think we may have some budding surfers! Thanks to thier teachers for bringing them. No photos of any staff members on surfboards were available for publication at this time!!

Visiting our Neighbours

Our friends in @StPatricksBNS invited us along for a play date. Our ladies in Junior and Senior Infants had a memorable time and their teachers loved the collegiality and hospitality too! Special Thanks to Mrs Galvin, Mr Carty and all the members of staff who facilitated such a wonderful outing. The weather was kind too! #activeschools

Old St Angela's had a farm E-I-E-I-O

Agri Aware's farm came to visit us recently and we especially enjoyed meeting Polly the goat and Lucy the Limousin. The duck actually laid an egg in front of our very eyes. Somebody ateit for breakfast the following morning but nobody is telling! However one of the highlights of the day was meeting the boys from @StPatricksBNS who came to visit us and we got to see the farm and play together. In fact we were so well behaved that we received an invitation to visit them. We can't wait for the adventure. It's all part of #aistear #friendship and #activeschools.
